Moving On: Lessons from My Notion-Slack Automation Journey

Hey there! It's time for a little heart-to-heart about my Notion-Slack automation product. Spoiler alert: I'm moving on. But don't worry, the product's not going anywhere (more on that later).

The Good, The Bad, and The Reality Check

I thought I'd struck gold. I mean, who uses Notion and doesn't use Slack, right? Seemed like a perfect match. And you know what? The product is good. Really good. It's been a game-changer for my team, streamlining our workflows and keeping us on track.

But here's the kicker: good doesn't always mean profitable. Finding that elusive product-market fit? Yeah, it's as tough as they say.

What I Learned (The Hard Way)

Building a great product is only half the battle. The other half? Marketing. And boy, did I underestimate that part.

Here's the thing: posting on a website and throwing some money at ads isn't enough. You've gotta get creative, push your product through different channels, and keep at it until something sticks. Me? I spent way more time coding than marketing. I simply don't enjoy marketing

What's Next for the Product?

Good news for all you users out there – the product's staying put. And it's staying free. (At least for now. If my hosting costs suddenly skyrocket, we might need to revisit this conversation.)

If usage spikes? I might dust off my coding gloves and develop it further. For now, though, it's business as usual.

What's Next for Me?

I'm not throwing in the towel entirely. Instead, I'm shifting gears. The main landing page is moving to a sub-page, and I'm turning the index page into a playground for personal development experiments.

Some projects in the pipeline:

- A simple week planner

- A sprint timer

- A development insights newsletter (This one's got me excited!)

👉

The newsletter idea? I'm planning to send out weekly Q&As, collect data, and maybe even discuss it on a podcast. 🤞
Have a look here - it's not active yet, but will be soon.

Parting Thoughts

Building this product has been a rollercoaster. Frustrating at times? Sure. But man, have I learned a lot. If you're out there working on your own project, remember: coding is only part of the equation. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and get creative with your marketing.

And hey, if you're still interested in streamlining your Notion and Slack workflows, give my product a try. From daily meeting reminders to celebrating team wins, it's got over 100 ways to boost your team's productivity. Who knows? It might be just what you need.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for more adventures in code soon!
